چکیده

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in patients with diabetes continues to present clinical management challenges despite recent improvements in the management of ACS. The diabetic myocardium is more vulnerable to ischemia–reperfusion injury than non-diabetic myocardium and the diabetic patient more likely to develop complications, significant morbidity and death following ACS. Currently, ACS management of diabetic and non-diabetic patients is not sufficiently differentiated to address the additional risk arising from ACS in a diabetic. Here we review the evidence for routine aspects of diabetic management such as glucose control in the context of ACS, and suggest that additional benefit may be derived by tailoring and pre-purposing antiglycemic medications during acute myocardial infarction to make best use of their pleotropic potential as cardioprotective agents. Oleuropein cardioprotection effect against oxidative stress in Streptozotocin-induced diabetic male rats

Introdution: Diabetes is the most common endocrine disorder characterized by hyperglycemia. Increasing the oxidative stress and changing the amount of antioxidants play important roles in pathogenesis of diabetes. Nowadays to control diabetes and its complications, the use of herbal drugs is considered widely. In this study, we investigated the effect of oleuropein on antioxidant enzymes activi...

Interaction of risk factors, comorbidities, and comedications with ischemia/reperfusion injury and cardioprotection by preconditioning, postconditioning, and remote conditioning.

Pre-, post-, and remote conditioning of the myocardium are well described adaptive responses that markedly enhance the ability of the heart to withstand a prolonged ischemia/reperfusion insult and provide therapeutic paradigms for cardioprotection. Nevertheless, more than 25 years after the discovery of ischemic preconditioning, we still do not have established cardioprotective drugs on the mar...

Bmx, a member of the Tec family of nonreceptor tyrosine kinases, is a novel participant in pharmacological cardioprotection.

Previous studies have indicated that PKC-epsilon is a central regulator of protective signal transduction in the heart. However, the signaling modules through which PKC-epsilon exerts its protective effects have only begun to be understood. We have identified a novel participant in the PKC-epsilon signaling system in cardioprotection, the nonreceptor tyrosine kinase Bmx. Functional proteomic an...

The winding road to cardioprotection

Over the past two decades, the mortality from acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has been reduced dramatically. Timely reperfusion is the most powerful intervention for limiting infarct size, alongside antiplatelet, antithrombotic and anti-ischemic therapies. Paradoxically, reperfusion itself can also exacerbate myocardial injury, so called ‘‘reperfusion injury’’, which can cause additional card...

Hyperglycemia Abrogates Ischemic Postconditioning Cardioprotection by Impairing AdipoR1/Caveolin-3/STAT3 Signaling in Diabetic Rats.

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) activation is key for ischemic postconditioning (IPo) to attenuate myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI), but IPo loses cardioprotection in diabetes in which cardiac STAT3 activation is impaired and adiponectin (APN) reduced. We found that IPo increased postischemic cardiomyocyte-derived APN, activated mitochondrial STAT3 (mitoS...

Investigating the role of acute and repeated stress on remote ischemic preconditioning-induced cardioprotection

Objective(s): To study the effect of acute and repeated stress on cardioprotection-induced by remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC).Materials and Methods: RIPC was induced by giving 4 short cycles of ischemia and reperfusion, each consisting of five min. The Langendorff’s apparatus was used to perfuse the isolated rat hearts by subjecti...
